Being Warm, Being Happy: Conversation Cards
The University of Sheffield School of Nursing and Midwifery’s research project Being Warm, Being Happy works alongside adults with learning difficulties, to see how they heat their homes during winter.
To help give structure to the conversations I was asked to design a series of cards to help convey feelings, concepts, people and objects. These were used alongside illustrated summaries of the participants living/heating arrangements, enabling researchers to gain insights that might have been overlooked in a traditional conversation.
The process of branding the project involved participants with learning difficulties. After sharing with a few options this one was overwhelmingly preferred. The importance of branding in this case was to give the participants a set of tools and resources specifically designed for them, instead of stock images and card sizes which might not be entirely appropriate.
